A Day in the Life at one of Our Veritas Villages

Andrea Martinez, March 26, 2025

Spending a day at one of the Veritas Villages is a unique experience. It’s more than just a development project, it’s our home and part of a global vision for self-sufficient, freedom-oriented communities. Veritas Villages are being established in multiple countries, forming a network of like-minded individuals dedicated to independent living. This is not a new idea for my husband Patrick; it has been an ongoing evolution since he first started creating off-grid, self-sufficient luxury communities with Milagro Verde in almost two decades ago.

Finding the Right Location

Patrick and his son Spencer, the founders of Veritas Villages, have always been passionate about living in a self-sustainable way, long before the world-changing events of recent years. Later on, especially after COVID, I realized how important that was, so at first, we thought of creating one just for our family, but we quickly realized that this was a vision we could dedicate our lives to—not just for ourselves, but for many others who share the same desire: "to have a place where we can make our own decisions, where government doesn’t call all the shots." While no one can completely escape government oversight, we can certainly create a level of independence within our own communities. The key to achieving this lies in owning and controlling the essentials: shelter, power, water, and food. And if we can do so in a beautiful, well-located area that surpasses our expectations, even better.

Panama offered many ideal locations for a Veritas Village, but the site for Veritas Village Coronado—our first Veritas Village—stood out. Just 1 hour and 20 minutes from Panama City and 10 to 15 minutes from Coronado, it provides convenient access to grocery stores, restaurants, and healthcare while maintaining a sense of privacy and freedom. Additionally, it's only 25 minutes from Laguna San Carlos and Picacho Mountain, perfect for hiking, fishing, and camping and a similar distance to amazing Pacific Ocean tropical beaches.

From the start, we knew this was the right place.

Daily Life at Veritas Village - Coronado

For me, mornings start early here. From the upstairs bedroom of our Welcome Center, we watch the sunrise before making breakfast in our outdoor kitchen. The Welcome Center, built using wood, rock, and bamboo from the property, is fully off-grid with solar power and the community mountain spring fed well water. The Welcome Center has two bedrooms, a barbecue area, and a large terrace overlooking the pool, so until our home is completed, it is a great place to stay!

Some days, we cook at home, enjoying the natural sounds of the environment. Other days, we drive to Coronado for breakfast at The Bench, where the eggs Benedict is always a delicious choice.

Most of the day is spent working on the community. We’ve started building the first of many homes, are developing roads and the potable water infrastructure, and are regularly testing various solar equipment. We’ve even set up a Bitcoin miner powered by solar energy to demonstrate how residents can use similar technology to generate income and potentially cover their HOA fees.

Some afternoons, we stroll through the community orchards to see what’s growing. With well over 40 different types of fruit trees and hundreds of trees planted, there’s always something new to discover. Recently, we’ve been picking fresh limes and bananas—perfect for adding to our meals. It’s fascinating to observe the growth: one day, just leaves, and the next, tiny bursts of color hinting at the harvest to come.

One of the best things about Veritas? No utility bills. The Welcome Center and all the upcoming luxurious homes in the community operate entirely with off-grid solar power and with a huge water tower supplying fresh water to all residents.

Evenings in the Community

Afternoons are for relaxing on the terrace, working with an incredible view, or taking a swim. As the sun sets behind the mountains, the sky transforms into breathtaking shades of orange, pink, and purple. We often take a walk through the property, checking on the lots and envisioning the homes that will soon be here.

We’re usually in bed pretty early, maybe it’s all the fresh air that makes us want to sleep! The nights are dark, quiet, and peaceful—just the sounds of nature in the background. It’s hard to find a better sleep anywhere else.

The Future of Veritas Villages

Each day, Veritas Village - Coronado continues to grow and evolve. Soon, this community will have more solar-powered homes, community garden beds and hydroponic gardens, a school, medical center, restaurant, tennis and pickleball courts, a gym, and even a tilapia pond (which my husband is especially excited about).

This is just one of our Veritas Villages, part of a larger vision spanning multiple countries. Through the Veritas Villages Club, residents will have access to a network of freedom oriented self-sufficient communities worldwide, providing opportunities to travel, connect, and enjoy meeting like-minded people throughout beautiful spots in Latin America.

For us, it’s already home—a place full of opportunities and a sense of peace that the outside world often lacks.

If this vision of community and shared values resonates with you, Veritas Village in Panama—or one of our other locations—might be worth exploring. Let us know if you’d like to visit!

Kind regards,

Andrea
