My Impressions of Nicaragua: From Fear to Falling in Love

Sara Martinez, April 23, 2025

Before traveling to Nicaragua, my perception of the country was everything I had heard in the news: violence, poverty, insecurity. Like many people, I had certain fears and uncertainties about what it would really be like to be there. However, my experience was completely different from what I had imagined.

One thing that struck me during my time in Nicaragua is how many people have an inaccurate image of the country. It’s easy to believe what we read or hear in the media, but when you’re actually there, you realize it’s not as bad as it seems. Nicaragua is not defined by what’s often portrayed in the news; it’s a place filled with warmth, beauty, and a rich culture that is far from what many people expect.

When I arrived at Gran Pacifica, a truly paradise-like place, I encountered something I never expected: a warm, safe community filled with kind people. From the moment I set foot in that beautiful place, I felt welcomed. The kindness of the locals truly surprised me and made me feel at ease. Every person I met, from the locals to other tourists, had a smile on their faces and was ready to help with anything I might need. I never felt out of place or like a stranger.

Although Nicaragua is a country that faces different challenges, I was amazed by the beauty and care that is given to places like Playa Pacifica, where the government always supports international investments. It's clear that there is a genuine effort to improve the infrastructure and attract projects that benefit both Nicaraguans and visitors. The local people also play a crucial role in this change, supporting initiatives and ventures with the hope of seeing their community grow.

Another thing I absolutely loved was the local food. SeaSalt Restaurante is one of the most popular restaurants in the area, and it is located in Playa Pacifica, just in front of the beach. SeaSalt quickly became one of my favorites places. The food was delicious, fresh, and prepared with so much care that every bite was a burst of flavor. Definitely a place you must visit if you're in the area.

What stood out the most to me was the sense of community. People in Gran Pacifica and the surrounding areas really take care of each other like one big family. It’s an environment where people support one another, and that makes you feel so safe and comfortable. When you’re there, you really don’t want to leave. You’re enveloped by a sense of peace, and it’s like all the stress and worries of everyday life melt away.

In summary, my visit to Nicaragua, and particularly to Playa Pacifica, completely changed my perception of the country. The warmth of the people, the safety of the place, and the natural beauty of the area made me fall in love with this corner of the world. If you’ve ever hesitated about traveling to Nicaragua because of what you hear in the news, I encourage you to think again. You’ll be surprised by what this wonderful country has to offer.
